Port St. Lucie Sports Club is proud to announce the appointment of Bernardo Romeo as the Club’s Sporting Director. With an outstanding career both on and off the field, Romeo joins the Club bringing extensive experience in elite competition, player development, and soccer management at the highest international level.
Proven leadership within national teams and youth development
Following a successful playing career, Bernardo Romeo established himself as a highly respected sporting director and soccer executive. His first experience in management came at club level as Sporting Director at San Lorenzo de Almagro, where he was part of the leadership team that guided the club to three titles, including its first-ever CONMEBOL Libertadores. He later went on to play a significant role within Argentina’s national team structures, particularly at the youth level.
During this period, he was part of highly successful projects that led to major international achievements in youth competitions. His work focused on identifying talent, structuring competitive environments, and developing players capable of succeeding at the global stage.
Romeo’s approach has consistently emphasized not only technical and tactical excellence, but also the personal and professional development of young players: a philosophy that strongly aligns with the vision of Port St. Lucie SC.
A direct connection to Lionel Messi and a historic generation
A key highlight of Romeo’s career is his involvement within Argentina’s national team structures that helped support and sustain one of the most iconic generations in soccer history. Those structures played a fundamental role in developing and nurturing elite players who would later define the global game, including Lionel Messi.
Romeo played an important role within the management environment that strengthened those pathways, contributing to long-term development processes at the highest international level.
A distinguished career as a professional soccer player
Bernardo Romeo enjoyed a successful career as a professional soccer player, standing out at top clubs and competing at the highest levels of the game. During his playing career, he also made his mark in European football with stints at Hamburger SV in the German Bundesliga, as well as RCD Mallorca and CA Osasuna in Spain’s La Liga, showcasing his goal-scoring ability, leadership, and top-level experience across major professional leagues.
That career path provides him with first-hand insight into the demands of elite performance and the pathways required to develop top-level professionals, a perspective that would later support his transition into senior football management roles.
Aligned with the Club’s long-term vision
As Sporting Director, Bernardo Romeo will oversee the Club’s sporting strategy, talent development pathways, and the integration between the Academy and the First Team, helping to establish a clear soccer identity and sustainable competitive structure.
His appointment reinforces the Club’s commitment to building a professional, ambitious, and community-driven project with a foundation rooted in high-level soccer expertise.
“This project is about building a soccer structure from the ground up, with a clear identity and a strong focus on developing players capable of competing at the professional level,” Romeo said. “Establishing professional standards and clear pathways from day one is essential to creating an environment where players develop a clear identity and strong habits.”
Building the future
Romeo’s arrival follows other key appointments within the Club’s sporting structure, including Juan Ignacio Brown as Director of Youth Academies, strengthening a leadership team defined by experience, credibility, and a shared vision.
Port St. Lucie Sports Club continues to take decisive steps toward building a modern soccer institution, focused on excellence, development, and long-term growth.
